Catching Up On Lost Growth #Horlicks

We all aspire for well being and a healthy lifestyle. All parents want their children to lead healthy and balanced lives – both physically and psychologically.

Let me analyse growth with two perspectives, physical growth and psychological growth.

To make an important point, I will start by sharing my own experience:-

I believe the most important and common thing between childhood,  teenage, adolescent and early adulthood is the ability to learn and grow. The degree with which one decides to learn account to the amount one grows.

I am a 22 year old recent graduate from a good college with high aspirations. And guess what’s most important for me in my opinion at this point of time?

It is to be able to learn something new each day to grow as an individual and as a professional.

In the world full of distractions, it sometimes does get difficult for children to focus on learning and growth. I have a younger sibling and just few days ago I was discussing with her some examples of how some children get the environment that pushes them to grow and how some have to struggle to find that push. It is so important for children to find that push which motivates and encourages them towards growth.

However, in the career oriented world, while we focus so much on psychological growth and growth as a professional, what sometime gets neglected is physical growth especially among very young kids.

I love the Horlicks advertisement in which the aspiring child athlete competes with his mother and runs her out. It is an amazing symbolic manifestation of growth. Being so closely connected with Sports, I like it even more. It is highlights the very important fact that growth has to start at a very young age.

Importance of Healthy Growth

Pediatricians say that 3-9 years is also a critical growth phase for children. However, inadequate growth can sometimes happen due to fussy eating, illness or for several other possible reasons.  Growth lost in early childhood requires specialised nutrition in order to catch up, but parents must make sure that adequate nutrition is provided so that catch up growth happens.

Catch Up on Growth

Educational institutions, the government and concerned parents are also getting children involved in new, exciting and interesting activities for their wholesome growth from a very young age.

Be it sports, music, dance or debate, everything adds to the overall personality of the child developing them to become a better versions of themselves. Physical attributes like weight and height make a lot of difference here. They build confidence in children.

The new era children are moving towards the model where they could be a jack of all trades to find out and explore their passions to become a master and grow in one.  Leadership roles and positions of responsibility also help in the growth of children. It’s great how the environment in schools and colleges is welcoming new ideas of young children to explore infinity and beyond. If a child can initiate, the environment in schools and colleges are more welcoming for new clubs, societies and initiatives than ever before.

And the foundation of this starts at a very young age, with the right physical growth and later with the right psychological growth. Hence, in my opinion, is it very important for young children to catch up on lost growth.
